The Marcus Lancaster Memorial Scholarship

During the Great Depression, Owl's Head Falls student Marcus Lancaster and his friend, "Tiny Tim," sketched portraits of Liberty Owl. Instead of selling them for a profit, young Marcus auctioned his prized artwork and donated the proceeds to needy villagers. After high school, he enlisted in the U.S. Navy as a pilot and served in World War II. Marcus later donated the majority of the wealth he derived from his artistic endeavors to the creation of the Marcus Lancaster Scholarship. He turned 104 this year.
